History

Set in the heart of North Cornwall in 230 acres of rolling hills and woodland, Ross Cobbledick designated an area of Special Landscape Value in 1992 to construct Bowood Park Golf Club. This land once formed part of a 13th century deer park owned by the Black Prince.

Brian Huggett, Bob Knott and Eddie Connaughton (Advising) were taken on board to design the beautiful USGA specified Par 72 Parkland golf course as we know today.

Ross Cobbledick and family still own the business to date. Nigel, the son of Ross, acts as ‘Managing Director’ and will cater for every need and requirement where possible for your visit. The place oozes with character from the moment you arrive to the time you depart with memories to experience again for when you next come to visit.

The construction of Bowood Park

Started in 1988 and finished in 1992, ready for the opening in June of 1992 - 4 whole years of hard work payed off to see the course & club house as it stands today.

What you see today is a vast reflection of determination and intelligence from every person who was involved from 1988 up until today. From the small, original idea from Ross Cobbledick of a 9 hole pitch-and-putt to a 230 acre 18 hole fully operational Golf Course, Club House & Hotel.

The 'shell' of the building was built by M&A Burt and team, including Nigel Cobbledick (spotted in a few photos) in a remarkable time too! BT Jenkins was responsible for the groundswork of the Golf Course, being overseen by professionals named above.

The opening in June 1992 might have looked a bit different to what you'd imagine, with the 'club house' back then, only being what the pro shop is today. What once was a small team of 10 staff at opening, has steadily grew to a magnificent team of 50+ staff members. As the business gradually expanded, so did the buildng - with the last extention being 'The Bowood Restaurant' in 2000.
